A Joyful Summer Celebration: Liz & Dan’s Wedding at Historic Elizabeth Furnace

Venue – Elizabeth Furnace
Photography – Days Away Creative

Nestled in the rolling hills of Lancaster County, Elizabeth Furnace served as the perfect backdrop for Liz and Dan’s unforgettable summer wedding. This stunning historic venue, rich with 18th-century charm and surrounded by Pennsylvania’s natural beauty, offered an idyllic setting for a celebration full of joy, laughter, and timeless romance.

From the moment I arrived on that sunny summer morning, I knew it was going to be an extraordinary day. The sun bathed the grounds in golden light, highlighting the lush greenery, colonial-era stone buildings, and the peaceful flow of the nearby creek. While a few quick rain showers passed through the area later in the afternoon, they were light and fleeting—adding a little extra drama to the skies without ever disrupting the day’s events.

One of the most unique and breathtaking venues in Pennsylvania, Elizabeth Furnace is steeped in history and natural splendor. Once an 18th-century iron plantation, it’s now a meticulously preserved estate that combines rustic elegance with historical charm.

The venue boasts a mix of stone and wood structures, antique ironworks, and beautifully manicured gardens. A winding lane leads guests past open fields, towering trees, and colonial architecture to the heart of the venue—where Liz and Dan exchanged vows. A covered footbridge crosses over a trickling stream, offering one of the most romantic portrait spots you could ask for.

From a photographer’s perspective, every corner of Elizabeth Furnace is a dream. We took full advantage of the variety in scenery—photographing Liz and Dan among ivy-covered stone walls, beside the picturesque springhouse, and beneath towering trees with sunlight dancing through the branches. Even the simple gravel paths were photo-worthy, with their gentle curves and perfect views of the ironmaster’s mansion.

One of the most charming features of Elizabeth Furnace is its collection of beautifully preserved historic barns—and for Liz, the ceremony space inside one of those barns was a major reason she fell in love with the venue. With its exposed beams, original stone walls, and soft natural light filtering through vintage windows, the barn offered a warm and intimate atmosphere that felt like stepping back in time.

The ceremony took place inside the largest of these historic barns, a space that perfectly balanced rustic charm with elegance. Guests were welcomed into the cozy structure, where wooden pews and cross-back chairs lined the aisle, leading to a floral-adorned arbor placed against the weathered stone wall. The ambiance was romantic and serene, with the scent of fresh florals filling the space and soft acoustic music echoing through the rafters.

The indoor setting turned out to be ideal—not just aesthetically, but practically, too. A brief afternoon rain shower passed through right before guests arrived, but thanks to the barn’s timeless shelter, not a moment of the day was impacted. The sound of raindrops lightly tapping the roof only added to the intimacy and emotion of the ceremony, creating a cocoon-like feeling for Liz and Dan and their guests.

As Liz walked down the aisle, beaming, the look on Dan’s face said everything. Their ceremony was full of heartfelt vows, shared laughter, and happy tears—all set against the backdrop of a space that truly reflected their vision for the day.

Liz and Dan closed out the evening under a sky full of stars, surrounded by the people they love most. Their wedding at Elizabeth Furnace was not just a celebration of their love, but also a nod to timeless beauty, historical charm, and the quiet magic that can be found in a place so special.

It was an absolute joy to photograph their day—from the peaceful moments to the uncontainable laughter—and I’m so excited for them to relive it all through their images.
